Former New Labour Party spin doctor Alastair Campbell proved an entertaining choice for guests as after-dinner speaker at St Helens Chamber’s Annual Dinner last Friday evening.
Sponsored by GPW Recruitment, the event was hosted in the historic surroundings of Knowsley Hall with live music and dancing and an exquisite three-course meal on the agenda.
But it was Mr Campbell’s presence that was the talk of the evening. A key member of Tony Blair’s government, former newspaper political editor and broadcaster, he spoke candidly about his time with the government and the people his career brought him into contact with.
As well as some humorous anecdotes about Tony Blair and then Deputy PM John Prescott, Mr Campbell also talked about some important advice he was once given by Former US President Bill Clinton on the importance of setting daily objectives and sticking to the task no matter what negativity may be around.
Steve Gange, Chairman of St Helens Chamber, said: “Our annual dinner is the flagship event of the year, this year attracting over one hundred and fifty Members and guests.
“Our speaker Alastair Campbell was hugely entertaining, and I am also pleased to say that the evening raised £1440 for Willowbrook Hospice.”
Event sponsor Graham Worsley, Chairman of GPW Recruitment, added: “We were very pleased to step in and sponsor the event and it proved to be a highly enjoyable evening and a great opportunity to meet with other Members and their guests. It’s important during these challenging times that we continue to work together and keep up spirits.”
