GPW’s Mr Motivator braved the elements on 29th April 2012 to complete the Manchester Marathon in a personal best time.
Gary Ward, Operations Manager who has been an inspiration to many of the staff at GPW was the only one brave enough to set himself the challenge of the Manchester Marathon.
Conditions were as bad as they could possibly be with strong winds, heavy rain and even hail stones – it was as if we were in the middle of winter. Only a handful of GPW staff braved the elements to come out and support in the atrocious conditions.
Mark Parish, Managing Director commented “we wanted to come and support Gary on his mammoth task as he kindly organises all our sporting functions and events.
Having done the Liverpool marathon last year with him, I know the pain people put themselves through. Until you have done one yourself, you will never understand! We watched Gary come past at the 22 mile mark which is where the pain kicks in the most and the support genuinely gives you a motivational boost.
The weather was bitterly cold and runners were literally shivering as they ran past – they must be mad! We were freezing cold wrapped up in jackets and scarves.”
Gary continues to be a source of inspiration to many of the staff at GPW with his endless energy and enthusiasm. He has encouraged employees to “get active” which has improved fitness levels and creates a great sense of camaraderie amongst those taking part. His commitment and dedication is very motivational and where lots of people lose interest after a while, Gary keeps pushing forward. We look forward to hearing about his next “adventure” in coming months – WELL DONE GARY!!
