Degree qualified Mechanical Engineering Consultant required to join a successful engineering consultancy and provide immediate support to the current engineers and designers.

The successful Mechanical Engineering Consultant will be expected to produce design verification calculations and analysis for pressure vessels, heat exchangers and storage tanks to various national and international codes.

You will be confident in preparing and checking manual engineering calculations and have a sound knowledge of design by analysis techniques (FEA – preferably using ANSYS) in accordance with code requirements. Calculations are predominantly undertaken using in-house developed and maintained Excel based programs (together with proprietary vessel software such as PV Elite). We would expect the successful candidate to be comfortable in adopting this approach, and to quickly become proficient in their use, assisting the team to maintain, update, and develop them where necessary.

Key Responsibilities as the Mechanical Engineering Consultant

  • Engineering Design of Pressure Vessels, Storage tanks, Heat Exchangers, and other associated equipment.
  • Preparation and checking of verification calculations, following relevant Design by Rule and Design by Analysis methodologies.
  • Checking and sign off on fabrication drawings produced by company designers.
  • Take ownership of design jobs from initial point of contact through to delivery of work package, liaising with the client at all stages as necessary.
  • Development and maintenance of new design programs using Excel

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Relevant Engineering degree
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards
  • Relevant experience in similar discipline
  • Proficient with stress analysis and hand calculations – high level maths
  • Proven experience in Design by Analysis (FEA) – preferably ANSYS
  • Proficient with MS Excel (advanced level)
  • Practical knowledge of steel fabrication
  • Excellent report writing skills

Beneficial

  • Experience with EN14105, API 650, EN1993-1-1
  • Working knowledge of vessel design codes and associated international standards/directives (PD5500 & ASME VIII Div.1).
  • Design of steelwork
  • Experience with Autodesk products such as Robot, Simulation Mechanical, AutoCAD or SolidWorks

On offer is a salary between £40,000 pa and £55,000 pa depending on experience., plus 25 days holiday, a 38 hour working week with an early Friday finish
