Time served / Apprentice trained Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Craftsperson is required for permanent position for a Manufacturing company in the Bury / Whitefield, M45 area. Salary £50k pa incl. of shift allowance, + regular O/T, likely earnings to be circa £60k incl. O/T possibly more, plus benefits (see below). The successful candidate will be working a 4-week rotating, continental shift pattern, average of 42 hours/week (12 hour days & 12 hour nights, with 7 consecutive days off in a 4 week rotation). Position is likely to start on days initially for training / familiarisation with plant / processes etc.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience of working in an industrial manufacturing environment and be familiar with pumps, motors, gear-boxes, conveyor systems, belts and powered drives, basic electrical knowledge and able to weld MIG / TIG on C/S & S/S to a good standard.

Package:

  • £50k incl. shift allowance (weekly paid).
  • Regular overtime readily available, likely earnings to be c£60k pa possibly more.

Working Hours:

Continental shift pattern across 4 weeks – 12 hours shifts (Days 6am – 6pm & Nights 6pm – 6am)

4-week shift rotation example:

Week1: 1D, 3N, 3 OFF

Week2: 1 OFF, 3D, 3 OFF

Week3: 4 off, 3N

Week4: 1N, 3 OFF, 3D

Week5: 1D, 3N, 3 OFF

And so on.

The successful Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Maintenance Fitter day to day duties will include:

  • The Mechanical Shift Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance & repair of the plant, machinery, and associated equipment using the current processes and systems to achieve and exceed performance targets.
  • Liaise with Engineering Technician’s / Engineering Manager’s regarding machine priority.
  • Assess the parts needed for a job
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance and testing
  • Ensure good quality workmanship which upholds company standards and complies with industrial codes and follows safety requirements
  • If trained undertake MIG & TIG welding on C/S & S/S where necessary.
  • Ability to work alone and also work within a team
  • Basic electrical duties such as disconnecting motors, wiring etc.

The ideal Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Craftsperson will have the following experience, skills and characteristics:

  • Fully Apprentice trained with C&G L3, NVQ L3 etc. ideally qualified to ONC/HNC or equivalent in Mechanical/Electromechanical Engineering
  • Proven experience as Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Maintenance Fitter within an industrial manufacturing / production environment.
  • Reactive and Planned Preventative Maintenance of plant equipment including, pumps, motors, gear-boxes, conveyor systems, belts and powered drives.
  • Working knowledge of Hydraulics and Pneumatics is advantageous although training can be provided for the right candidate.
  • MIG and TIG welding experience to a good standard, of mild and stainless steel is preferred
  • Health and Safety focused
  • Basic Electrical knowledge, disconnecting motors, PLC’s, variable speed drives AC/DC etc.
  • Flexible attitude towards personal skill development
  • Adaptable approach to shift work including overtime and shift cover when required.
  • Excellent communicational skills (Oral, Reading & Writing), able to communicate at all levels.

The successful Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Maintenance Fitter will need to be flexible as there will be a requirement work additional hours as and when the business requires and other duties not mentioned in this job description.
