On Tuesday 24th February ticket holders, along with Sky Sports gathered to see the great Jamie Lyon at Moss Bank Labour Club for a Paul Wellens Testimonial Forum. Wellens picked up former team-mate Lyon from Leeds earlier that day where he was staying to play in the World Club Challenge. Jamie played for Australian Super League winners, Manly Sea Eagles, against UK Super League winners, Leeds Rhinos in which, unfortunately for the UK, he lead his Australian team to victory. Also on the panel was Saints hooker Keiron Cunningham and former rugby league referee Karl Kirkpatrick.
The panel answered questions from the audience which were read out by Karl Kirkpatrick who was the compere for the evening. No question went unanswered and a cheeky Kirkpatrick kept the audience and the panel in stitches with his ‘no holes barred’ attitude to the evening.
It was only a matter of time before the obvious question was asked…’Will Jamie Lyon come back to Saints?’ Lyon spoke fondly of his time at GPW Recruitment Stadium and didn’t rule out a comeback.
The fun filled evening was caught on tape by Sky Sports who couldn’t miss the opportunity to see some of the greatest contributors to super league under one roof. A down to earth Paul Wellens helped serve hotpot to the guests and GPW, along with Paul’s testimonial committee were there to ensure the night was enjoyed by all.
