Job Objective

  • To supervise and deliver key packages of construction projects
  • Remit will include assisting in the production of construction plans, coordination of Engineering Support team (Surveyor, Project Engineer, Materials Scheduler, Resources Coordinator, Engineering team), procurement of construction materials and specialist subcontracts, and related activities necessary for the successful delivery of the project. Senior member of contract management team supporting the Site Manager & Project Manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring the technical solution is delivered on site in line with the Engineering department requirements and management systems

Essential Tickets:

– SWQR – Street Works Supervisor.
– Accredited Safety Training, SSSTS as a minimum.
– Commercial awareness – good record keeping is essential.
– Full UK Driving License

Desirable:
– NEC 3 Form of Contract – awareness/understanding.
– CITB SMSTS.
– National Grid System Authorisations.
– National Grid Electricity Distribution System Authorisations.
– SSE System Authorisations.
– Site Plant Tickets, excavator, deep excavations, BESC, etc.

Essential Experience:

  • Supervising the Engineering Support team on projects through all phases of design, construction, commissioning & close out.
  • Experienced in cable installation and associated activities i.e., jointing and testing requirements.
  • Experience in managing excavation works, in both public highway and remote working.
  • Ability to react to and solution any site issues that may occur, good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform take-offs from construction drawings and produce material schedules.
  • Ability to understand and deliver works in line with project schedule, including forecasting resource and materials and providing updates on programme deliverables.
  • Experienced in establishing project delivery teams.
  • Experienced in contributing to the design and constructability of major projects.
  • Experienced in Managing, coordinating, and interfacing with construction team and sub-contractors
  • Experienced in coordinating and controlling team delivery in accordance with agreed cost, schedule & change without compromising SHEQ standards.
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining good relationships with clients and sub-contractors.

Competencies – role specific

  • Knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities.
  • Ability to review client’s Scope of Work for completeness and clarity of intent. Liaise with client groups on points requiring clarification.
  • Ability to manage preparation of Project Control Estimates, review and approve same.
  • Ability to engage with specialist subcontractors and material suppliers.
  • Ability to oversee and instruct the Material Scheduler and Resource Coordinator to ensure materials and labour are brought to site in the correct quantities and at the required time.
  • Maintain overview of material requisition and procurement status for projects.
  • Manage preparation of project schedules.
  • Propose and execute remedial actions for all identified problem areas associated with any schedule slippage.
  • Manage expenditure against project control budgets for projects. Alert management of any potential cost overruns.
  • Ensure variations are identified and processed at the correct stage for any changes in the work.
  • Attend client meetings as required.
  • Knowledge of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment studies.
  • Ability to manage the execution of all project close-out activities.
