We are looking for someone with experience in the area of hazard studies, systems, layout engineering and pipework to work as a permanent Hazard Studies Engineer in Bristol on the Hinkley Point C project – salary up to £38,000 per annum plus benefits.

Working as the successful Hazard Studies Engineer your essential qualifications will include:

*Engineering degree qualified (preferably Mechanical or Electrical)

*Experience in the area of hazard studies, systems, layout engineering and pipework

*Good knowledge of safety requirements

*Ability to navigate PDMS and Navisworks software

*Good communication and interpersonal skills

*Ability to work in a team as well as on own initiative

*MS Office – proficient user

*Fluent in English – written & verbal


*Knowledge of EPR design

*Knowledge of PWR or AGR power station and systems design

*Experience in previous nuclear projects

*Experience of working in a fast pace engineering project environment

*French language skills – written & verbal – ability to create technical documents

As part of the Responsible Designer for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project, our Client provides Engineering Design support. This role is a member of a large integrated team seconded into the Client team focused on providing high quality design, engineering knowledge & expertise.

The Hazard Studies Engineer conducts studies relating to internal and external hazards (such as extreme cold, internal explosion, pipework ruptures and earthquakes…) on the buildings that our Client is responsible for in order to verify that classified equipment meets the protection requirements.

The Hazard Studies Engineer should have the ability to take a strategic view with good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate at all levels. They should be able to write clearly-expressed and well-presented reports.

Main Activities:

*De-risking Studies

From Flamanville 3 feedback and analysis of the UK modifications, the Hazard Studies Engineer will have to propose some changes/optimisation to the Layout Team in order to de-risk at an early stage, the design related to hazard protection requirements.

*Verification Studies Analysis

From input data supplied by the architect engineer (list of classified equipment), by the systems engineers (description of plant main systems), and by the 3D model, the Hazard Studies Engineer will:

Produces studies relating to:

– Internal hazard for buildings within scope

– External hazard for building within scope

Produce simplified design calculation hypotheses and define the various possible scenarios for each internal or external threat situation:

– Identify the equipment under threat and also the way in which the equipment would be affected.

– Produce studies on the functional redundancies impacted.

On one dedicated hazard topic, provide contributions to the safety report and the doctrine and liaise with the client and the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).

*Layout changes

The Hazard Studies Engineer will:

Relay to the building general layout controllers the changes to be made to the general layout, highlighted by the functional analysis studies completed by the architect engineer.

Present the results of these studies regularly to the project teams.

The Hazard Studies Engineer will also be attached to one dedicated building, and will be the correspondent for the integration of all the hazard studies (both inside and outside scope such as internal flooding, external explosion, etc.) in the early stages of the design and with the support of referent engineer.

Business Travel will include occasional trips to France.

Service Incentive – on completion of 12-month continuous service in post – there is a salary uplift of 5% paid.

Security Clearance: BPSS level security clearance required. You will either have it or be eligible to attain it. The criteria is:

*Right to Work – Verification of Nationality, ID documentation and Immigration status

*Identity – ID Data check (electronic identity authentication – name, address, aliases, links, accounts etc.)

*Criminal Records – Search for ‘unspent’ convictions (Basic Disclosure)

*Employment checks – Confirmation of 3 years (minimum) Employment History / Activity
