If you’ve been successful in an interview for a new job – Congratulations! We hope that by reading our blog posts on a successful CV and a confident, impressionable interview, this was of help to you. At GPW Recruitment we want to continue this level of support until you’ve fully settled into your new position so here’s how to hit the ground running in your new role.
Fitting in with Colleagues
Whether we’ve assisted you as a job agency in St Helens, or anywhere else in the North West, the concerns are the same and we understand that starting a new role can be hard. This can be especially tough for someone who has not changed their job in a long time or somebody entering work for the first time.
No one is keen on being the ‘new member of staff’, who doesn’t know anybody in the workplace, determined on making a good first impression. Here at GPW we recommend the following for a smooth transition into the team
- Be confident, you were employed for a reason! Having faith in your own abilities shows colleagues and potential clients, that they were right to pick you for the job.
- Listen to advice from your new colleagues and to what goes on around you – this allows you to pick up on how the company does things.
- Don’t be afraid to accept any out-of-work activities with new colleagues so you can get to know them better.
Nerves are Normal and Only to be Expected!
If you are feeling anxious early on in your new job, this is completely normal. You might be missing elements of your previous role and wondering if you’ll feel like the ‘newbie’ forever.
Relax, these days will pass and whilst you gradually get used to the way the business works, this often happens without you even realising it. The company that employed you will understand that it takes time to get into the ‘swing of things’ and won’t expect you to know everything straight away. Accepting that the first few weeks of the job won’t be easy is a good way of making yourself feel more comfortable – and you’ll be employee of the month in no time!
